Track & field takes two titles at Tennessee All-Comers Meet

Knoxville, Tenn. (Jan. 6, 2006) - Two ETSU athletes took titles at the first indoor meet of 2006 on the campus of the University of Tennessee.

 

         Freshman Rebecca Cole (Knoxville, Tenn.) set a school record in the pole vault, taking the title with only successful vault of the day at 10 feet (3.04 meters).  Cole bested the five competitor field after the other four athletes failed to clear the 10 foot bar.

 

         Senior James Ranier (Alcoa, Tenn.) claimed the 55-meter dash title with a final sprint of 6.34 seconds.  Ranier advanced to the final heat with a second-best in the field time of 6.39 in his first run.  Ranier bested the six-athlete final heat field by nearly a tenth of a second to win the event.

 

         The Bucs return to action January 14 at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va.
