KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (May 1, 2007) - A handful of ETSU track and field athletes hit the track one final time before letting it all out at next weekends Atlantic Sun Championships, as they competed at the Smoky Mountain Men's Twilight Meet Tuesday on the Tom Black Track in nearby Knoxville.
A trio of Buccaneer student-athletes shined Tuesday night as freshman Nic Chernikow (Seymour, Tenn.), junior Mike Wright (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and senior Johnny Tucker (Spartanburg, S.C.) all set season-bests in their respective events.
Chernikow, making his 100-meter debut, recorded a time of 11.30, placing him 15th overall.
Also on the track, Wright crossed the finish line with a time of 14.93 in the 110-meter hurdles, besting his old mark of 15.14; while Tucker placed ninth in the 100-meters with a time of 10.86.
The Bucs will now have a week and a half to rest and prepare for the conference championships, which will be held in Johnson City at Liberty Bell Park. The meet begins Friday, May 11, with the men's decathlon kicking the weekend off at 8 a.m.
