FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Feb. 13, 2009) - Senior Heidi Dahl (Orem, Utah) never fails to impress the Buccaneer faithful when it comes to running at any distance.

On Friday afternoon, the transfer from Orem, Utah, went head-to-head against a stacked field when she took the line for the mile at the Tyson Invitational. When it was all said and done, Dahl was the first runner to finish the Olympic Development race, as the talented student-athlete posted a new school record and NCAA Provisional Mark with a time of 4:41.90.

"Heidi ran brilliantly today," commented associate head track and field coach Michelle Byrne. "She ran consistent and towards the last three laps she had control of the race."

Dahl, who has set two school records in the event prior to Friday, trimmed a few seconds off that mark and now ranks 13^th in the country amongst collegiate athletes in the mile.

The senior runner also blew away the 8-woman field, as Michigan's Danielle Tauro was three seconds (4:44.27) behind Dahl in second and Florida's Kaitlin Shiver was five seconds (4:46.30) off the leader.

"We came here with a goal in mind, and that was to solidify a time for the NCAA Championships," added Byrne. I think she did that today and did so against a very tough field."

Dahl and the rest of the Buccaneer track and field team will now prep for the 2009 Atlantic Sun Indoor Conference Championships, which takes place next weekend in Johnson City.
