Lady Buccaneer runner sets new personal best and ETSU record in 1500m final

EUGENE, Ore. (June 27, 2009) - Senior Heidi Dahl's (Orem, Utah) remarkable collegiate track and field career came to an end on Saturday evening, as the Lady Buccaneer runner placed seventh in the finals of the 1500m at the USA National Championships, located inside Hayward Field.

Dahl, who was looking to finish in the top three and secure a spot to the IAAF World Championships, recorded a new personal best and ETSU record after being clocked in at 4:11.58. The Orem, Utah native was the second collegiate runner to finish the race, as Stanford's Lauren Centrowitz placed sixth in 4:11.21.

Shannon Rowbury, who was competing for Nike, won the event with a top time of 4:05.07.

Dahl's impressive year with the Lady Buccaneer track and field team included trips to the Indoor and Outdoor NCAA Championships, and she achieved numerous accolades along the way. The ETSU student-athlete and five-time Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week recipient became the first Lady Buccaneer athlete to claim All-American honors since Catherine Berry did so in 2000. In addition, Dahl rewrote the ETSU record books by setting new times in the mile, 800m (indoor/outdoor), 1500m, and also won conference championship in the mile, 800m, 1500m and ran a leg in the 4x400-meter relay (indoor and outdoor).
