Monal sets two Regional Qualifying Marks, Burton breaks ETSU shot put record in Knoxville
Tuesday, May 5, 2009

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (May 5, 2009) - Duronal Monal (Belle Glade, Fla.) highlighted ETSU on the track and Jarrod Burton (Bastian, Va.) did the same in the field events, as the Buccaneer duo led the charge on Tuesday night at the Smokey Mountain Twilight Meet, located on the Tom Black Track in LaPorte Stadium.

Monal flew his way to regional qualifying marks in both the 100 and 200-meter events on Tuesday. The junior sprinter finished second in the 100m with a time of 10.46 - and after finishing behind Tennessee's Joseph Morris in the 100m - Monal beat him out by turning in his second regional qualifying time in the 200m. Monal won the event by being clocked with a blazing time of 21.18.

Meanwhile, less than a week after setting a new ETSU mark in the discus, Burton continued to rewrite the history books in the throws. Burton broke his previous school record in the shot put by finishing fourth with a heave of 52-06.50 (16.01m) - which was one-foot longer than his previous record set at the Milligan Relays back in March.

Freshman thrower Cornell Sneed (Miami, Fla.) also enjoyed a solid night in the discus. Sneed posted a season best by over nine feet when his toss of 149-08 (45.63m) was strong enough for a third-place finish.
