Tuesday, March 10, 2009

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 10, 2009) - Senior transfer Heidi Dahl (Orem, Utah) received the news she was waiting to hear on late Monday night, as the distance runner learned she has been selected to the 2009 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Dahl will represent the Buccaneer track and field team in the mile.

Dahl's time of 4:39.39 set at the Atlantic Sun Championships back in February was strong enough to make the field of 16. The Orem, Utah native's time also won the conference championship inside Memorial Center and broke her previous school mark of 4:41.90 - which was set at the 2009 Tyson Invitational.

"I am very proud that Heidi's hard work paid off and she will be competing at the NCAA Championships," commented associate head coach Michelle Byrne. "She is a talented student-athlete and it's such an honor to go head-to-head against the best collegiate athletes. Heidi's goal since we starting training was to get to the Championships and it will be exciting to see what she can do on the big stage."

The championships will be held March 13-14 at the McFerrin Athletic Center in College Station, Texas.  Texas A&M University will serve as the host.

Dahl will be in action on Friday at 4 p.m. when she competes in the prelims of the women's mile. The finals will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

A total of 568 participants will compete in the championships.  Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching the automatic or provisional standards established for each event.

The complete list of all student-athletes competing in the championships is available on the NCAA Web site.

ESPN360.com will stream portions of the championships live both days. Remaining coverage will be available on www.NCAA.com.  Additionally, ESPN2 will air a 90-minute show at 2:30 p.m. Eastern time, Monday, March 23.  For more information regarding the indoor championships, please visit www.NCAA.com.
