BLACKSBURG, Va. (March 7, 2009) - Senior Judy Johnson (Knoxville) closed out a stellar 2009 Indoor Track and Field season on Saturday afternoon, as the senior sprinter posted a school record in the 200m at the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet inside the Rector Field House.

Johnson - who held the previous mark in the event - finished third overall by ending the race with a time of 23.96. The mark was also just six-tenths of a second shy of a NCAA Provisional Mark.

"Judy ran very well today and made a huge improvement on her time," added associate head track and field coach Michelle Byrne. "She went head-to-head against a difficult field and managed to come away with her best race of the season. Hopefully now she can carry this success into the outdoor season, which begins in a couple weeks."

While Judy was busy on the track, fellow senior Josh Cloyd (Telford, Tenn.) was competing in the men's long jump. Cloyd ended up placing 13th overall with a mark of 23-01.75 (7.05m).

"Both Judy and Josh faced some difficult competition today and this is what they need to face if they want to be tested," added Byrne. "It was good to see where they rank against some of the top athletes. Now they know what to build on in order to reach regionals and nationals during the outdoor season."

With Johnson and Cloyd closing out their indoor campaign, senior Heidi Dahl (Orem, Utah) will now await word if she made nationals in the mile. The national selections will be released on Monday afternoon.
