Sophomore was ETSU’s lone competitor at Prelims on Friday

GREENSBORO, N.C. (May 24, 2013) – Sophomore Dede Edgecombe (Spartanburg, S.C.) placed 35th overall in the women’s 100m hurdles on Friday at the NCAA East Region Preliminaries at Irwin Belk Track inside of Aggie Stadium on the North Carolina A&T State University campus.

A strong sophomore season was brought to an end on Friday when Edgecombe recorded a 35th-place time of 13.71. The native South Carolinian was unable to improve upon, as the season wore on, her personal best and ETSU school record time of 13.64 at the Raleigh Relays on March 30. The future remains bright though for the soon-to-be junior as she will remain a vital cog in an impressive women’s sprints squad in the future.

“Dede [Edgecombe] struggled a little bit today but it should not take away from a very successful year,” said ETSU Director of Track & Field/Cross Country George Watts. “She set school records in the indoor and outdoor hurdles and I expect much more from her next year.”

On Saturday, the women’s javelin throw featuring Verena Tobis (Hechingen, Germany) will start at noon; followed by Jason Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa.) and the men’s triple jump at 1 p.m. At 6 p.m., ETSU’s action at the Prelims will come to an end with the women’s 4x100m relay team in competition.
