TOWSON, Md.  (June 27, 2013) – Sophomore Adam Chase (Kingsport, Tenn.) continued racking up academic honors as the ETSU track & field/cross country scholar-athlete was named Third Team Capital One Academic All-America® on Thursday.

Chase, who was selected to the 2012-13 Capital One Men’s Academic All-District III First Team last month, has registered a cumulative 4.0 grade point average (GPA) while majoring in mathematics. The Kingsport, Tenn. native was also named 2013 A-Sun Men’s Track & Field Student Athlete of the Year earlier in May.

On the track, the sophomore took gold at the 2013 A-Sun Outdoor Championships with a personal best time of 9:09.85 in the 3000m steeplechase, a time that propelled him to First Team All-Conference honors in the event and among the top-80 in the NCAA East Region. The Kingsport native also registered personal bests this indoor season with a 4:20.42 time in the mile run and a mark of 8:41.31 in the 3000m run. In the fall, Chase received Second Team All A-Sun honors after finishing 13th with a time of 25:26.7 at the conference championship.

Senior distance runners Andy Bayer (Indiana) and Jordan Hasay (Oregon) were chosen as the winners of the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year award for the Division I Men’s and Women’s track and field and cross country programs, respectively.
