The Buccaneers will return to action after a successful weekend of competition at the 2014 Niswonger Invitational, Jan. 17-18. On day two of the Invitational, ETSU took the top spot in four events and finished in the top three in nine total events. Featured among these top finishers were a number of student-athletes who showed well in distance events. Jessica Palmer (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) started the momentum with a first-place finish in the women’s 5000 meter run with a time of 18:43.07. On the short track for the women, Dede Edgecombe (Spartanburg, S.C.) backed up her first-place finish in the 60 meter hurdle prelims a day prior with an even better performance on day two in the finals with a first-place time of 8.53.
In the field, freshman Brett Squibbs (Rock Hill, S.C.) turned in an impressive performance in the men’s pole vault with a launch of 5.00 meters to gain second place. The mark is an ETSU indoor record in the event.
