Junior’s 13.70 time second-best among A-Sun competitors in the event
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 30, 2014) – ETSU junior sprinter Dede Edgecombe (Spartanburg, S.C.) placed 32nd overall in the women’s 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.70 on Friday at the NCAA Division I East Region Preliminaries at Hodges Stadium on the University of North Florida campus.
The lone Buccaneer in action at Regionals on Friday, Edgecombe competed in the first of six heats, placing sixth out of eight competitors in the heat and ultimately 32nd overall out of 48 competitors. In the event, the top-24 competitors will move on to tomorrow’s quarterfinal to decide the top-12 advancers to the NCAA Championships in two weeks. The junior’s 13.70 time was second-best among A-Sun competitors in the event.
ETSU’s final competitor at the Prelims, rookie pole vaulter Brett Squibbs (Rock Hill, S.C.), will compete on Saturday at noon. The frosh qualified for the meet after setting a new ETSU record in the event at the War Eagle Invitational on April 18 with a vault of 5.20 meter which was tops among competitors in the A-Sun and is 25th-best in the East Region. Squibbs will look to continue the momentum following establishing a new conference record of 5.05 meters at the A-Sun Outdoor Championships to take the event crown.
