Buccaneer distance runner named Second Team All-America
AUSTIN, Texas (June 26, 2014) – Junior track & field/cross country student-athlete Adam Chase (Kingsport, Tenn.) added yet another academic award to his resume as he was named Second Team Capital One Academic All-America® on Thursday, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Last season, Chase was awarded as a Third Team Capital One Academic All-America® honoree. The Kingsport native -- who was selected to the 2013-14 Capital One Men’s Academic All-District III First Team last month -- earned this year’s accolade by posting a 4.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) while majoring in mathematics. The junior was also previously named Atlantic Sun Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year in May for the second-straight season.
This year on the track, the distance runner competed in two individual events at the A-Sun Outdoor Championships, including a second-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase which landed him Second Team All-Conference honors. His season best in this event came at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 9:10.28 which ranked him among the top-80 in the NCAA Division I East Region. He also recorded a new personal best in the 5000-meter run at the War Eagle Invitational with a time of 14:56.20.
Senior distance runners Luke Caldwell of the University of New Mexico and Abbey D’Agostino of Dartmouth College were chosen as the winners of the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year award for the Division I Men’s and Women’s track and field and cross country programs, respectively.
