The 2014 edition will be the 36th time ETSU has hosted the event

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 26, 2013) – The 36th annual Niswonger Foundation Track & Field  Invitational will take place Jan. 17-18, 2014 inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletics Center on the David E. Walker Track and Gentry Field, ETSU Director of Track & Field/Cross Country George Watts announced Thursday.

The Niswonger Invitational is a two-day event featuring collegiate teams from throughout the southeast. For over three decades, the meet has served as an opportunity to showcase the ETSU campus and the Mini-Dome as well as provide a great source of competition amongst teams and student-athletes alike.

“I am pleased to announce that we will host the Niswonger Invitational in January 2014,” said Watts. “This meet has been a staple of ETSU track & field for many years and is an opportunity to showcase our facility, the campus and Johnson City.”

In the most recent edition of the Invitational last January, more than 800 student-athletes from more than 60 collegiate teams competed over the two-day period. The Buccaneers secured first-place marks in the women’s triple jump and men’s high jump as well as a top standing in the men’s 800m and a one-two finish in the men’s mile run.

“Our athletes look forward to competing in front of the home crowd,” said Watts, “and we are looking forward to another great competition in January.”
