Two Bucs qualify in sprints/hurdles prelims, two place among top four in field events

RALEIGH, N.C. (March 27, 2015) – In a large field of competition, the ETSU track & field program posted solid showings on day one at the Raleigh Relays at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility on the North Carolina State University campus.

Carrying over from the indoor season, the ETSU sprints/hurdles duo of junior Keturah Williams (Alpharetta, Ga.) and senior Dede Edgecombe (Spartanburg, S.C.) continued to challenge in their respective events. Hurdler Edgecombe remained as a force in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a 13.91 time to place runner-up in the event preliminary. In the women’s 100-meter dash prelim, sprinter Williams raced to a fourth-place finish with a time of 12.123. In tomorrow’s event finals, Edgecombe will square-off against seven other competitors at noon, while Williams will race versus seven additional sprinters at 12:10 p.m.

The Bucs were also able to achieve some successes in crowded lots of competition in field event finals. Highlighted among these performances were a pair of top-four finishes; one on each of the men’s and women’s sides. In the women’s long jump final, freshman Timia Easley (Columbus, Ohio) placed runner-up with a mark of 5.55 meters against 20-plus other jumpers. In the men’s discus final, junior Blake Isom (Jefferson City, Tenn.) recorded a throw of 46.95 meters to place fourth among nearly 30 competitors.

Track action will pick back up on Saturday with the men’s 4x1500-meter relay at 11 a.m. and end with the women’s 4x400-meter relay at 4:35 p.m. An abbreviated portion of field competition will commence on Saturday with the men’s hammer final at 10 a.m. and will conclude with the women’s javelin final at 1 p.m.
