Edgecombe bests her own school record in 100mH, Williams matches ETSU record in 100M

GAINESVILLE, Fla. and High Point, N.C. (April 3, 2015) – A pair of record performances as well as solid showings in throws events highlight ETSU track & field’s split-squad competition on Friday at both the 2015 Pepsi Florida Relays and the seventh-annual HPU VertKlasse Meeting.

After nearly breaking her own ETSU record in the women’s 100-meter hurdles last week at the Raleigh Relays with a wind-aided 13.35 time, senior hurdler Dede Edgecombe (Spartanburg, S.C.) had a new record time in her sights Friday in Gainesville. The senior responded with a legal-wind 13.42 time in the event finals to place 12th overall out of approximately 65 competitors. This time eclipses her 13.48 school-record time set last year at the University of Tennessee Challenge.

Junior sprinter Keturah Williams (Alpharetta, Ga.) also aimed to etch her name in the ETSU record book in the women’s 100-meter dash at the Florida Relays. The junior proved to be up to the challenge and registered an 11.72 time to finish 32nd out of nearly 70 participants in the event final. This time ties the school record set by Emani Harrison in 2011.

At the VertKlasse Meeting on the High Point campus, the Bucs featured a limited number of participants on Friday, but did find some successes. In the men’s shot put, which featured nearly 40 throwers, ETSU placed two among the top-15 overall. Senior Spencer Keck (Maynardville, Tenn.) placed eighth with an outdoor personal-high toss of 14.32 meters, while sophomore Jacob Dunlap (Fulks Run, Va.) rounded out the top 15 with a personal outdoor best 13.62 mark.

Competition at the VertKlasse Meeting will pick back up with the 800-meter run and the men’s hammer at 10 a.m. Saturday morning, and conclude with the 4x400-meter relay at 5:10 p.m. Click here for the complete meet schedule.

Live results from High Point are available here, while a video stream on Saturday can be seen here from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m.
