CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 18, 2016) – Friday at the 49'er Classic in Charlotte, N.C. was a successful day for the ETSU Outdoor Track and Field program as the Buccaneers posted multiple personal bests along with two top-five finishes and three top ten's.
The lone victory for the Bucs came on the women's side as senior Ashley Kessler (Knoxville, Tenn.) won the women's pole vault with a height of 3.80 meters. For Kessler, it was the third highest vault of her career.
Starting off the day was junior Mike Williams (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) in the 110m hurdles where he took first in preliminary heat with a personal best time of 14.75. With the seventh fastest time, Williams qualified for the 100mH finals on
Saturday.
To begin the day on the women's side, senior Keturah Williams (Alpharetta, Ga.) won her preliminary heat with a time of 12.00, placing her 10th overall out of 88 runners.
Junior Matt Moore (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) advanced to the 100 meter final on Saturday as he recorded a personal best time of 10.66 to win his preliminary heat. Moore registered the sixth fastest time out of nearly 100 runners.
For the men, junior A'Darrius Sanders (Knoxville, Tenn.) collected a personal best in the 400 meters with a time of 49.87 while junior Nathan Rivera (Knoxville, Tenn.) had a personal best throw in the Javelin of 45.76 meters.
In the final event of the evening, the women's 5000 meter run, the Bucs placed two in the top 16 with junior Victoria Hutchens (Stuart, Va.) and sophomore Macy Carrier (Bluff City, Tenn.) placing 12th and 16th. Hutchens ran a career-best 17:47.80 while Carrier also ran a career-best with a time of 18:19.66.
The 49'er Classic will conclude on Saturday with the all the action beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the women's 10,000 meter run and the men's shot put.
