Track & Field places eight in the Top 10 at VertKlasse Meeting
HIGH POINT, N.C. (April 2, 2016) – On day two of the VertKlasse Meeting on Saturday the ETSU Track and Field program shined with eight top ten finishes along with four Bucs recording personal bests.
Kicking off the day at the VertKlasse Meeting was freshman Starr Graham (Alpharetta, Ga.) who in the women's participant 100 meter for the first time in her career and finished third out of nearly 50 runners with a time of 12.26.
In the women's participation 400 meter, freshman Kiana Davis (Ooltewah, Tenn.) ran a personal best time of 58.66 to finish fourth. In the same race, sophomore Aubree Collins (Atlanta, Ga.) cracked the top 15 with a time of 59.44. For Davis, she followed up her 400 meter performance by grabbing her second top ten finish of the day, placing sixth in the participation 200 meter with a time of 24.92.
On the men's side of the participation 400 meter, sophomore Patrick Taylor (Chattanooga, Tenn.) ran a personal best time of 52.06 to win his heat. Taylor overall finished 34th out of 71 runners. In the men's participation 200 meter, junior Matthew Moore (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) rounded out the top ten with a time of 22.12. Close behind Moore was senior A'Darrius Sanders (Knoxville, Tenn.) in 17th place with a personal best time of 22.32.
Sophomore Jazmin Lacy (Smyrna, Ga.) recorded two solid performances at the VertKlasse Meeting on Saturday in both the women's participation 100 meter and 400 meter hurdles. In the 100mH, Lacy registered a personal best time of 15.32 while in the 400mH she recorded a time of 1:08.27 to finish just outside the top ten in 11th.
Nearing the end of the day, the Bucs put together some impressive performances as junior Simeon Roberts (Greeneville, Tenn.) recorded a top ten finish, placing sixth in the 800 meter with a time of 1:54.40.
In field events, the Blue & Gold saw two top ten finishes in the pole vault as junior Brett Squibbs (Rock Hill, S.C.) placed fourth in the men's pole vault with a mark of 4.92 meters (16-1.75"). On the women's side, senior Ashley Kessler (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished ninth with a vault of 3.51 meters (11-6.5").
To end the day the ETSU Women's 4x400 meter relay team clinched the Bucs eighth top ten finish at the VertKlasse Meeting, running a time of 4:01.17.
The Buccaneer Track & Field Program will continue the outdoor season on Friday, April 8 as they head to Boone, N.C. for the Appalachian State Outdoor Open.
