Track and field conclude last day of Hokie Invitational

BLACKSBURG, Va. (Jan. 21, 2017) – With one first place finish at the Hokie Invitational, the ETSU men’s and women’s track and field teams produced two top-5 and ten top-10 finishes on the final day in Blacksburg, Va. on Saturday.

Highlights of Day Two

  • In the first track event of the final day, Katrina Seymour (New Providence, Bahamas) placed in the top-5 in the women’s 400m. She placed fourth with a time of 55.00, which was just half a second behind second place.
  • Michael Williams (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) competed in the men’s 400m and placed 11th with a time of 49.51.
  • In the women’s 800m, Kaitlyn Lay (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished sixth with a time of 2:20.84. Her teammate, Emily Lord (Morristown, Tenn.), also finished in the top-10.
  • Thomas Miller (Lithonia, Ga.) and Harper Sigler (Bogart, Ga.) competed in the men’s 800m finals. The duo finished in sixth and seventh, respectively. Miller finished at 1:53.83 with Sigler nipping at his heals with a time of 1:57.09.
  • Seymour continued her success on Saturday as she worked her way into the top-10 in the women’s 200m. She finished seventh at 24.62, which was just 0.28 seconds away from tying second place.
  • Skyler Winchester (Knoxville, Tenn.) nearly finished second in the men’s 5000m. The senior crossed the finish line at 15:32.00, which was just three seconds from the runner-up.
  • On the field side of the Hokie Invitational, Rebekah Fox (Franklin, Tenn.) cracked the top-10 in the women’s high jump final. Her best jump came at 1.59m, which was just 0.01m away from tying a personal best.
  • Benjamin Johnson (Nashville, Tenn.) shattered his previous best of 14.00m. He hurled the shot put 0.69m farther to finish just outside of the top-10 in the finals.
  • In the women’s long jump, Adriana Watkins (Kingsport, Tenn.) also had a career day as she shattered her personal best. In Blacksburg, she recorded her best jump of 5.08m, which is 0.22m better than her previous best.
  • On the men’s side of the long jump, Patrick Taylor (Chattanooga, Tenn.) moved into the top-10 of the men’s final. His best mark was 6.68m, which was just 0.19m away from moving into the top-5.
  • Brett Squibbs (Rock Hill, S.C.) finished tied for fifth in the men’s pole vault final. His best jump was 4.96m, which tied Brad Johnson of Virginia Tech.


What’s next for the Bucs

Both programs will rest next weekend before the Bucs return to Johnson City for their second home meet of the season. ETSU will host the Buccaneer Track and Field Invitational, which begins on February 2 and runs through February 4.
