SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 22, 2017) – As announced by the Southern Conference on Wednesday the ETSU Track & Field program completed a sweep of track and field athletes of the week with three Buccaneers earning the recognition.
The senior duo of Matt Moore (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and Brett Squibbs (Rock Hill, S.C.) took home men’s athlete of the week honors.
Moore earned men’s SoCon Track Athlete of the Week honors after claiming the 100-meter title last weekend at the Charlotte 49’er Classic with a time of 10.71. Moore currently has the fastest 100m time in the SoCon and 27th fastest time in the NCAA East Region.
Squibbs earned men’s Field SoCon Athlete of the Week honors after winning the men’s pole vault competition at the 49’er Classic with a mark of 5.10m (16’ 8.75”). Squibbs mark ranks as the highest in the SoCon during the outdoor season and third highest in the NCAA East Region.
Sophomore Kyra Atkins (Greer, S.C.) registered a clean sweep of the women’s SoCon Athlete of the Week awards, earning Track AOTW and Field AOTW. On the track, Atkins took home her first 100m hurdle title of the outdoor season at the 49’er Classic after finishing with a time of 13.49.
Last weekend at the Charlotte 49’er Classic, Atkins in the field placed third in the long jump with a mark of 5.85m (19’ 2.5”). The mark set a new career-high for Atkins during the outdoor season and ranks first in the conference this outdoor season.
