Kyra Atkins, Katrina Seymour, Simeon Roberts and Brett Squibbs qualified for the NCAA East Prelims

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.  (May 18, 2017) – The NCAA announced on Friday the qualifiers for the NCAA East Preliminaries with four East Tennessee State Track & Field athletes will heading to Lexington, Ky., May 25-27.

Sophomore Kyra Atkins (Greer, S.C.), senior Katrina Seymour (New Providence, Bahamas), senior Brett Squibbs (Rock Hill, S.C.) and junior Simeon Roberts (Greeneville, Tenn.) will represent the Bucs at the prelims. The four qualified ETSU athletes is the most since doing so back in 2014.

Each day of the east prelims beginning on Thursday, May 25 can be seen on SEC Network Plus.

Atkins, who is making her second straight appearance at the East Prelims, qualified in the 100m hurdles.  The Greer, S.C., native has claimed back-to-back Southern Conference 100mH titles and this past weekend broke the ETSU school and SoCon Track & Field record with a time of 13.25.  

For her performance at the SoCon Outdoor Championships, Atkins was named the Most Outstanding Athlete after garnering the most points by a female athlete.

For the fourth straight year, Brett Squibbs will compete at the NCAA East Prelims, qualifying in the pole vault with the 24^th best mark in the region at 5.20m. A year ago, Squibbs finished 31^st at the prelims with a mark of 5.00m. During the outdoor season, Squibbs has recorded three pole vault victories.

Katrina Seymour will extend her senior campaign after qualifying for the east prelims in the 400m hurdles. Seymour qualified with the 17^th fastest time in the region at 57.96. The senior achieved the time at the SoCon Championships last weekend in which it set a new ETSU and SoCon record.

This outdoor season, Seymour has claimed two victories in the 400mH.

Junior Simeon Roberts will make his first appearance at the east prelims after qualifying in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:00.06. Roberts won his second straight 3000m steeplechase SoCon title last weekend in Birmingham, Ala., after running a career-best time. 

Roberts in the 3000mSC has posted one event victory and three top-five finishes.

The NCAA East Prelims are held from May 25-27 in Lexington, Ky., on the campus of the University of Kentucky at the UK Outdoor Track & Field Complex. Of the top 48 times heading to the prelims, the top 12 times from each event of the prelims will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 7-10.
