(May 29, 2018) For her unparalleled work in the classroom, the community, and in competition, ETSU senior Macy Carrier (Bluff City, Tenn.) has been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Women’s Track/Cross Country Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (May 29, 2018) -- For the third consecutive year and fourth time in program history, the ETSU men’s athletics program was awarded the Southern Conference Commissioner’s Cup, which is the all-sport trophy that is presented to the conference’s best all-around men’s program.
TAMPA, Fla. (May 26, 2018) Traveling from Johnson City, Tennessee to Eugene, Oregon, via Tampa, Florida, is a roundabout trip. For Kyra Atkins (Greer, S.C.), it was the preferred route. The ETSU junior clinched a spot in the womens 100 meter hurdles in next month’s NCAA Outdoor National Championships with an 11th-place finish in the East Preliminary meet Saturday at USF Track and Field Stadium.
TAMPA, Fla. (May 25, 2018) -- Kyra Atkins (Greer, S.C.) has more work to do at the NCAA Outdoor East Preliminary meet. The junior advanced to Saturday's finals of the women's 100 meter hurdles after qualifying heats Friday afternoon.
TAMPA, Fla. (May 24, 2018) -- Ben Johnson (Nashville, Tenn.) has taken a hammer to the ETSU record book more than once during the 2018 outdoor season. Thursday, on the biggest stage of the year, he did it again. At the NCAA East Preliminary meet at the USF Track and Field Stadium, Johnson again re-set his school record in the hammer with a throw of 196' 6" 59.91m). It's the fourth time he’s broken the mark in two months.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 23, 2018) -- Five Buccaneers will take part in a total of five events at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Region Preliminary meet, which starts tomorrow and continues through Saturday in Tampa, Fla. JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 17, 2018) -- ETSU will be represented by five student-athletes at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary meet, which begins May 24 in Tampa, Fla. The NCAA announced its list of competitors Thursday. The Bucs' qualifiers are Kyra Atkins (Greer, S.C.), Noah Charles (Johnson City, Tenn.), Ben Johnson (Nashville, Tenn.), Simeon Roberts (Greeneville, Tenn.), and Alyssa Whipkey (Pennsville, N.J.).
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (May 16, 2018) -- ETSU won seven titles at last weekend's Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships -- three last Thursday and four last Friday -- and claimed more hardware on Wednesday. The Bucs' Karon Delince (Phenix, Ala.) is the SoCon Men's Freshman of the Year, as voted on by the conference's coaches. Delince sweeps this year’s FOTY honors. He also won the award for the Indoor season.
CULLOWHEE, N.C. (May 11, 2018) -- Four victories, a slew of new personal-best performances, and a re-writing of the record book highlighted ETSU's showing on Friday, at the final day of the Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Cullowhee, N.C. Both Buc teams finished 3rd in the team standings. The women scored 129 points and the men 122. Western Carolina, the host school, swept the team titles.
CULLOWHEE, N.C. (May 10, 2018) -- Wins are what everyone is seeking, obviously, at a conference track meet. But team points are also important, and ETSU got some of both in Thursday's first day of the Southern Conference Championships in Cullowhee, N.C. The Bucs ended the day with three victories and the men’s team 2nd in the team standings with 53 points. The women’s team is 4th with 22 points.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 9, 2018) -- ETSU's track and field teams are going to a familiar place for the 2018 Southern Conference Outdoor Championships. This year's meet, which starts tomorrow and ends Friday, will be staged at the Catamount Athletic Complex in Cullowhee, N.C. The Bucs were there for the Catamount Classic this past April 13-14 and put up several top-tier results.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (May 2, 2018) -- A pair of multiple winners has given ETSU a double set of honors in men's track and field -- the Bucs have swept the Southern Conference Athlete of the Week awards for May 2. Freshman Matt Scarr (Wamberal, NSW, Australia) is the winner for for Track, and junior Ben Johnson (Nashville, Tenn.) is the winner in Field. The awards come after Johnson won three events, and Scarr two, at the ETSU Tri-Star Classic last weekend in Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 28, 2018) – A big haul of victories, and another school record by a serial record breaker headlined ETSUs performance Saturday in the second and final day of the Tri Star Classic on a sunny, breezy, 68-degree Saturday at Kermit Tipton Stadium in Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 27, 2018) -- Seven victories and a slew of top ten performances headlined ETSU's showing on the first day of the Tri-Star Classic at Kermit Tipton Stadium in Johnson City -- the Bucs' first home outdoor meet since May of 2007. Saturday's second and final day begins with the men's hammer throw at 9:00 am EDT. The first track event of the day is the women's 4 x 100 meter relay, starting at 1:30 pm.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 26, 2018) -- It's been almost 11 years, but ETSU is back in the business of hosting an outdoor track and field meet. The Bucs welcome nine other teams to Johnson City for the Tri-Star Classic, Friday and Saturday at Kermit Tipton Stadium at Science Hill High School. It's the first time ETSU has hosted an outdoor meet since the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships on May 11-12, 2007.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 25, 2018) -- Another new record, another award. The Southern Conference today named ETSU’s Ben Johnson (Nashville, Tenn.) as its Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for April 25. It’s the second weekly honor for Johnson in this outdoor season and his fourth of the calendar year. He was outdoor AOTW for March 28, and earned the award on consecutive weeks (January 31 and February 6) during the indoor campaign.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (April 21, 2018) -- ETSU’s small squad continued to turn in big results in the second and final day of the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va. The Bucs are competing in only seven events on the weekend, a far cry from 35 in last weekend’s Catamount Classic. But ETSU got a pair of personal best performances Friday, and the pattern of success continued Saturday.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (April 20, 2018) – ETSU appeared in only two events on Friday’s first day of the Virginia Challenge, but got two personal records and national-caliber times at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Va. Simeon Roberts (Greeneville, Tenn.) was 4th among collegiate athletes in the mens 3000 meter steeplechase, in the process setting a new PR and the 18th-best time in the nation this season. Noah Charles (Johnson City, Tenn.) likewise set a new career best while finishing 10th.

(April 29, 2018) -- With their only home meet of the outdoor season coming up, and last weekend’s busy Catamount Classic behind them, ETSU’s track and field teams face a lighter schedule at the Virginia Challenge this Friday and Saturday. The Bucs are entered in just seven events in the two-day meet in Charlottesville, Va. That’s in contrast to the 35 events ETSU entered in Cullowhee.
CULLOWHEE, N.C. (April 14, 2018) Six victories and a raft of top ten results were the high points for ETSU on Saturday in the second and final day of the Catamount Classic in Cullowhee, N.C. The meet was held on the same track where the Southern Conference Championships will be staged in May.
CULLOWHEE, N.C. (April 13, 2018) -- Four podium finishes, with one from a freshman, were the highlights for ETSU on the first day of the Catamount Classic, Friday in Cullowhee, N.C. Karon Delince (Phenix, Ala.), in his first collegiate outdoor meet, came within less than an inch of winning the long jump. Alyssa Whipkey (Pennsville, N.J.) was another close runner-up, in the women’s javelin. Her throw was only 19 inches off the lead. Ben Johnson (Nashville, Tenn.) was the top collegiate finisher in the men’s javelin, and runner-up in the hammer throw.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 12, 2018) -- Now that the weather matches the calendar, the ETSU track and field teams start the finishing kick of their regular-season schedule on Friday and Saturday at the Catamount Classic in Cullowhee, N.C. Forecasts call for high temperatures in the low- to mid-70s, with sunny skies on Friday and a chance of rain on Saturday. It’ll be a welcome change from the rain and cooler temperatures the Bucs have worked through this spring.
GOLD COAST, QUEENSLAND, Australia (April 12, 2018) -- Katrina Seymour made quite an impact during her time with ETSU’s women’s track and field team. The native of New Providence, Bahamas concluded her Buccaneer career as a 1st Team All-American in the 400 meter hurdles after finishing 8th at last year’s NCAA National Championships. Earlier in 2017, Seymour set the ETSU and Bahamian national record in the 400mH. Seymour’s time with ETSU ended last year. But she’s still setting records.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 11, 2018) -- A win is a win, and it means another win for ETSU’s Alyssa Whipkey (Pennsville, N.J.). Whipkey was the clear winner in the women’s javelin in last Friday’s VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, N.C. Today, the Southern Conference named the ETSU junior as its women’s Field Athlete of the Week for April 11.
For the second straight year, the ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will launch a special day of giving in support of Buccaneer student-athletes on Wednesday, April 11th.
HIGH POINT, N.C. (April 6, 2018) -- The day began and ended well, and wasn’t too bad the rest of the time, for ETSU’s track and field teams at the VertLKlasse Meeting on Friday. The Bucs claimed outright victories in two events, turned in the best collegiate performance in another, and produced more than 20 top-ten results overall on an overcast, mostly calm, 67-degree day in High Point, N.C.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 6, 2018) -- The honors keep piling up for Ben Johnson (Nashville, Tenn.). The Southern Conference today named Johnson its Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Month for March, a month in which he erased and re-established Buccaneer records in three different events. The latest award is the fourth for Johnson in 2018. He earned back-to-back AOTW honors during the Indoor season (January 31 and February 6) and was named Outdoor AOTW for March 28.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 5, 2018) -- Imagine expecting to have two days to get your work done, then finding out you only get one. That’s what ETSU’S track and field teams are facing in this weekend in the VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, N.C. The annual event was originally scheduled as a typical two-day meet, Friday and Saturday, April 6 and 7. But the forecast of bad weather on Saturday led organizers to stage all the events in a single day, Friday.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 4, 2018) -- For the second straight week, ETSU’s track and field program has received conference-wide recognition. The Southern Conference today announced Simeon Roberts (Greeneville, Tenn.) as its Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for April 4. Roberts earned the honor after his 3rd-place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase last Friday at the Raleigh Relays. His time of 8:53.55 set a new personal best by more than six seconds and is the 16th-best performance in the nation so far this season.

RALEIGH, N.C. (March 30, 2018) Another meet, another record. ETSU standout Ben Johnson (Nashville, Tenn.) shattered his own school record in the discus on Friday, in the first day of the Raleigh Relays. Johnson’s throw eclipsed his old program record by more than six feet and gave him a podium finish on Friday. Johnson was 3rd out of a field of 38 on a partly cloudy, 68 degree day at the Paul Derr Track in Raleigh, N.C.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 29, 2018) -- After a long, busy weekend at the Weems Baskin Invitational March 23 and 24, ETSU’s track and field teams face a lighter schedule at this weekend’s Raleigh Relays, which starts Friday in Raleigh, N.C. The Bucs’ two squads combined to compete in 31 events in the Weems Baskins. They’re scheduled for 12 in Raleigh. ETSU sent only a small contingent to the Raleigh Relays the past two seasons. The last time a larger-sized squad went to Raleigh was 2015, and it produced some standout performances.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 28, 2018) -- Ben Johnson (Nashville, Tenn.) keeps re-writing the ETSU record book, and for that he's earned another type of record. The Southern Conference on Wednesday named Johnson its Field Athlete of the Week for March 28, five days after he re-set two of his own ETSU records at the Weems Baskin Invitational in Columbia, S.C. It’s the first AOTW award in Johnson’s career. The honor comes after he established new Buccaneer standards in the hammer throw and the javelin, each in the last of his six allotted attempts.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 24, 2018) – For ETSU’s track and field teams, youth was served on the final day of Weems Baskin Invitational in Columbia, S.C. Rookies provided the top results, including a freshman’s first career outdoor win, on a busy Saturday at the Sheila & Morris Cregger Track in Columbia, S.C.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 22, 2018) -- Ben Johnson (Nashville, Tenn.) saved the best for last in re-setting two of his own school records on Friday, on the first day at the Weems Baskin Invitational in Columbia, S.C. The junior threw the javelin 202’ 3” on his sixth and final attempt of the event, besting his own ETSU record of 200’ 8 ¼” set the Southern Conference Championships in May 2016. Johnson’s second record was in hammer throw, which also came down to the sixth and last round. His throw of 188’ 4” shattered his old mark of 184’ 3” set at the 2017 SoCon Championships.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 22, 2018) The ETSU track and field teams continue their outdoor season with a visit to the Weems Baskins Invitational, starting Friday in Columbia, S.C. The meet features 40 teams and more than 1500 athletes competing on the Sheila & Morris Cregger Track on the campus of the University of South Carolina.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 17, 2018) -- A strong showing in the women's 200 meters, including a star turn by an ETSU alumnus, highlighted the Bucs' track and field teams' performance on the final day of the 49er Classic on Saturday in Charlotte, N.C. The Bucs placed two runners in the top ten. Kyra Atkins (Greer, S.C.), less than 24 hours after finishing runner-up on the 100 meters, was 5th out of collegiate runners at :24.42, and Kiana Davis (Ooltewah, Tenn.) was 7th at :24.54. At the front was former ETSU standout Katrina Seymour, now with the Bahamas’ national team, who took the victory at :24.05.
(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) March 16, 2018 A decisive victory in the mens 3000 meter steeplechase highlighted the showing of the ETSU track and field teams in the first full day of the 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C, the first outdoor meet of 2018. Simeon Roberts (Greeneville, Tenn.) was one of three Bucs in the top five, getting the win by crossing the line more than 12 seconds ahead of the field with a time of 9:05.56. Noah Charles (Johnson City, Tenn.) was third and Louis Morris (Knoxville, Tenn.) was fifth.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (March 10, 2018) -- Representing the first ETSU male weight thrower to ever compete in a national final, redshirt junior Ben Johnson (Nashville, Tenn.) was among the nation’s best at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in College Station, Texas Saturday afternoon.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (July 6, 2017) – The Southern Conference released its 2016-17 academic honor roll on Thursday, and ETSU placed 193 student-athletes on the list. In total, a league-record 2,100 student-athletes from the 10 member institutions and 13 associate members earned the distinction.
