COLLEGE STATION, Texas (March 10, 2018) – Representing the first ETSU male weight thrower to ever compete in a national final, redshirt junior Ben Johnson (Nashville, Tenn.) was among the nation’s best at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in College Station, Texas Saturday afternoon.

Johnson was the lone representative for ETSU and the Southern Conference in the event, competing against 15 other athletes whose season high marks were among the nation’s best.

At the event, Johnson tossed a mark of 20.70 meters (67-11 feet), to place 13th inside Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

The Nashville native represents just the second indoor thrower to compete in the NCAA's for the Blue and Gold in the last 30 years. In 1988, ETSU’s Angie Barker won a national championship in the women’s shot put and holds the school record at 16.47 meters.

Johnson and the Bucs now conclude the indoor portion of the track season, capping off a record-breaking 2018 winter.

The ETSU track and field team will now turn its focus to the outdoor season, beginning next weekend, March 15-17 at the 49’er Classic in Charlotte, N.C.
