All four competitors secured personal-bests in Thursday’s action

RALEIGH, N.C. (March 25, 2021) – Taking a small contingent into this weekend’s Raleigh Relays, the ETSU Track and Field team posted four personal records in four opportunities on Thursday afternoon.

After making their outdoor debut last weekend at the Charlotte 49er Classic, the Bucs follow with the three-day Raleigh Relays, lasting into Saturday evening. Nearly 70 teams joined the Blue and Gold for the weekend events.

Competing in his first outdoor event of the season, Matthew Scarr (Wamberal, NSW, Australia) highlighted the action for the Blue and Gold. After securing points in three different events at the SoCon Indoor Championships, including a first-place finish in the 3000m, Scarr picked up where he left off. Knocking 25 seconds off his best time, the junior crossed the line with a time of 14:02.25, placing him 20th in a field of 112 runners.

Phelani Maduwa (Parys, Free State, South Africa) and Evan Guzman (Franklin, Tenn.) got the Bucs started in the action on the evening, both competing in the 1500m. Maduwa registered in the top half of the 105 participant event, besting his time last week at the 49er Classic with a nearly six second drop off his previous mark (3:50.48). Guzman also recorded his fastest time of the season and of his young outdoor career, the freshman finishing just seconds off his teammate at 3:54.42.

Myles Stoots (Mobile, Ala.) also made his season outdoor debut in the 5000m, having competed once previously in his career at the 2021 SoCon Indoor Championships. Stoots cruised to a personal record, taking a whole minute off his personal best with a finish across the line at 14:48.97.
