Scarr represented ETSU in 5000m at Virginia Challenge

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (April 22, 2022) – Competing in the largest track and field meet on the East Coast this weekend, ETSU’s Matt Scarr (Wamberal, NSW, Australia) represented the Blue and Gold in the 5000m Friday night at the Virginia Challenge inside Lannigan Field.

Scarr, running the 5000m for the first time this outdoor season, finished 44th overall with a time of 14:09.83. The Buccaneer distance runner appeared in the first section of the invite event and placed 21st in that opening group.  

Scarr is the first of three Buccaneers competing this weekend in Virginia. On Saturday, Genevieve Schwarz (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and Phelani Maduwa (Parys, Free State, South Africa) will run in the women’s and men’s 800m. Schwarz will run at 3 p.m. and Maduwa follows 20 minutes later.

This weekend’s meet features over 1,700 athletes competing.
