CLEVELAND, Tenn. (May 14, 2022) – It was a record-setting day for the Buccaneers in the 1500m at Saturday’s Lee University Last Chance Meet.
ETSU’s Genevieve Schwarz (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and Matt Scarr (Wamberal, NSW, Australia) swept the 1500m titles in their final regular season events of the 2022 outdoor track and field campaign from the Ray Conn Sports Complex.
Schwarz recorded her fourth individual gold medal this outdoor season – second in the 1500m – as she turned in a personal best and meet record time of 4:18.42. This marked the second straight meet Schwarz set a PR in the event, while her time on Saturday was over a full second faster than her nearest competitor.
Shortly after Schwarz captured gold in the 1500m, Scarr owned the men’s race when he set a PR and meet record with a time of 3:43.25 – marking his third career win in the event. The men’s race was much closer than the women’s as Embry-Riddle’s Paul Kraemer finished runner-up (3:43.28) and Adam Bradtmueller (Sarasota, Fla.) turned in a podium finish as well. Bradtmueller nearly took a full second off his PR by finishing the race in 3:43.77.
Other ETSU notables on Saturday included, Lindsay Cooper (Charlotte, N.C.) posting a podium finish in the 100m hurdles. Cooper finished third with a time of 13.97. In addition, Jessica Lord (Morristown, Tenn.) placed third in the 800m with a personal best time of 2:06.91.
Nicole Johnson (Chattanooga, Tenn.) set a PR in the prelims of the 100m with the fastest qualifying time of 11.72. In the finals, Johnson finished sixth in 11.96. Closing out the night was Kiera Snyder’s (Clyde, Mich.) performance in the 5000m, where she shaved over 10 seconds off her personal best, clocking in at 17:27.23.
