BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (May 25, 2022) – The opening day of the NCAA East Preliminary got underway on Wednesday from Haugh Track & Field Complex, located on the campus Indiana University.

Making his postseason debut at the NCAA Regional, ETSU’s Miguel Parrilla (Knoxville, Tenn.) donned the Blue and Gold in the men’s 800m as he finished with a time of 1:49.94. Parrilla finished 20th in the field of 48 runners en route to posting his second-fastest time in the event.

Twenty-four runners advanced to Friday’s quarterfinal and Parrilla – who turned in the fastest closing 400m in his heat – just missed a qualifying spot for the next round. Georgia’s Clayborn Pender took home the last qualifying mark with a time of 1:49.63.

Parrilla was in last place of his heat as he made the final turn but closed the final 400m in 55.58, finishing fifth in his section.

Parrilla earned a spot in the regional with a PR of 1:48.84, set at the Southern Conference Championship where he won a silver medal.

ETSU has two more runners competing in the East Prelims as Genevieve Schwarz (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) runs the women’s 1500m Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m., while Adam Bradtmueller (Sarasota, Fla.) runs the men’s 5000m Friday night at 8:10 p.m.
