Bucs head to Nashville and Lynchburg for final indoor regular season meets

NASHVILLE, Tenn. & LYNCHBURG, Va. (Feb. 9, 2023) – Making their final tune up before the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the end of the month, ETSU is splitting up its squad for the final regular season indoor meet. A group of Bucs will head to Nashville for the Music City Challenge and another group is traveling to Virginia for the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational.

MUSIC CITY CHALLENGE

Date: Feb. 10-11

Meet: Vanderbilt Invitational    

Location: David Williams II Recreation and Wellness Center (Nashville, Tenn.)

Time: Friday’s meet gets underway at Noon with the track events start at 6 p.m. … On Saturday, the meet starts at 10 a.m. with the women’s 3000m

Results: Prime Time Timing

Video: Fans can watch the meet on SECN+ beginning Friday at 2 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m.

Location: Brant Tolsma Indoor Track at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex (Lynchburg, Va.)

Time: Friday’s meet gets underway at 2 p.m. with men’s weight throw, women’s long jump and men’s/women’s 60m … On Saturday, the meet starts at 10:30 a.m. with women’s high jump

Video: Fans can watch the meet on ESPN+ beginning Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at Noon

ABOUT THE BUCS

  • ETSU is coming off a successful showing last weekend at South Carolina where the Blue and Gold bagged four gold medals, two silvers and one bronze
  • For the second straight meet, the ETSU women’s distance medley relay (DMR) team broke the school record as Chanelle Kruger (Johannesburg, South Africa), Genevieve Schwarz (Oak Ridge, Tenn.), Rebekah Howard (Ashland, Ky.) and Kiera Snyder (Clyde, Mich.) posted a time of 11:40.82, besting the previous record of 11:46.68, set two weeks ago in Nashville … On top of setting the program record, the DMR won the event last Saturday in Columbia
  • The 11:40.82 is the fastest by any women’s DMR team in the SoCon this season and the 38th fastest nationally
  • To go with her leg of the DMR, Howard won the 3000m on Friday for her first-ever gold in the event … Howard, who has three individual wins this indoor campaign, set a personal best time of 10:03.50 in the event
  • Julia Foote (Franklin, Tenn.) received her first collegiate gold medal by capturing the title in the 5000m last Saturday … Foote set a PR with a time of 17:40.74, while it’s the third-fastest mark in the SoCon this season
  • Schwarz picked up a silver in the mile as she registered a time of 4:47.52 … That time is the sixth-fastest mark in the SoCon this season
  • Brayden Hamblen (Rock Falls, Ill.) picked up the other silver medal for the Bucs last weekend as he turned in a PR in the 3000m, finishing in 8:08.61, resulting in the third-best mark in the conference this year
  • Phelani Maduwa (Parys, Free State, South Africa) posted a first-place performance in the 800m last Saturday in Columbia where he crossed the line in 1:50.41 – a personal indoor best by the Buccaneer … Maduwa’s time is also the third top mark by any runner in the SoCon this year
