LEXINGTON, Va. (Feb. 24, 2023) – The ETSU men’s and women’s track and field teams are set to compete in the Southern Conference Indoor Championships, which will be held Saturday and Sunday in Lexington, Va.

Time: Both days of competition begin at 9 a.m.
- On Saturday, men’s heptathlon begins at 9 a.m., followed by women’s pentathlon at 9:15
- Saturday’s field events start with men’s shot put at 1:30 a.m.
- Saturday’s track events commence with the prelims of the women’s mile at 2:20 p.m.
- On Sunday, men’s heptathlon gets back going at 9 a.m.
- Sunday’s field events start with men’s triple jump at 10 a.m.
- Sunday’s track events get going with the women’s mile final at 12:10 p.m.

ABOUT THE BUCS
- ETSU has 24 women entered in this weekend’s meet, along with 19 men
- On the men’s side, the Bucs look to defend their title in the distance medley relay (DMR), while on the women’s side the Blue & Gold look to defend gold in the mile and 4x400m relay
- Genevieve Schwarz (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) is the two-time defending conference champion in the mile … Schwarz became the third ETSU runner to win the event in back-to-back years as she posted a time of 4:51.72, winning by a full second than her nearest competitor … Schwarz enters this weekend’s meet with the fourth-fastest time in the mile as she ran 4:43.25 at the Music City Challenge back on Feb. 10 … Schwarz also has the fourth-fastest time in the 800m (2:09.65)
- The men’s DMR squad holds the fastest time in the SoCon this season as the group of Myles Stoots (Mobile, Ala.), Josh Krafsur (Fort Collins, Colo.), Evan Guzman (Franklin, Tenn.) and Brayden Hamblen (Rock Falls, Ill.) ran 9:59.52 at the South Carolina Invitational on Feb. 3
- The women’s DMR squad has set the school record twice this season – most recently coming at the South Carolina Invitational where Chanelle Kruger (Johannesburg, South Africa), Schwarz, Rebekah Howard (Ashland, Ky.) and Kiera Snyder (Clyde, Mich.) ran 11:40.82
- Malachi Thomas (Chilhowie, Va.) holds the top mark in the SoCon in the high jump as he won gold in the event last time out at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational with a leap of 2.08m
- Rebekah Howard has won golds in 1000m, mile and 3000m this indoor season … Howard is entered to run the mile, 4x400m relay and DMR this weekend
- On the men’s side, the Bucs hold three of the top five fastest times in the 800m … Phelani Maduwa (Parys, Free State, South Africa) has the third-fastest mark (1:49.91), Miguel Parrilla (Knoxville, Tenn.) is fourth (1:50.33) and Krafsur is fifth (1:51.26)
- Hamblen holds the third-fastest time in the 3000m (8:08.61), while Snyder has the fifth-fastest mark in the women’s 3000m at 9:34.23 … Snyder also ranks seventh in the mile (4:51.41) and Hamblen is fifth in the 5000m (14:28.50)
- In the men’s mile, the Blue and Gold have four of the top seven times with Guzman ranking fourth (4:07.63), Krafsur fifth (4:08.50), Maduwa sixth (4:11.31) and Stoots seventh (4:11.50)
- In women’s pole vault, Diana Romero-Barba (Tepatitlan de Morelos, Jalisco, Mexico) has the fourth best mark in the event as she cleared 3.61m last time out at the Darius Dixon Memorial
- Tya Blake (Lynchburg, Va.) ranks fourth in women’s triple jump (11.49m)
- In the throws, Logan Wagner (Greeneville, Tenn.) has the third longest mark in shot put (13.96m), while Alyssa Ceja-Pena (Salinas, Calif.) is fifth in the women’s weight throw (14.72m)
- Ethan Fulford (Knoxville, Tenn.) is the lone Buccaneer athlete competing in the multis as he’s entered in the heptathlon … Fulford posted 4,291 points in the event at the Vanderbilt Invitational, which ranks fourth among SoCon athletes this season
