RALEIGH, N.C. (March 23, 2023) – ETSU distance runner Evan Guzman (Franklin, Tenn.) set a personal best in the 5000m on Thursday night at the Raleigh Relays.
Running the event outdoors for the first time of his collegiate career, Guzman finished with a time of 14:19.10 from the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility. Guzman, who made his debut in the event last month at the Southern Conference Indoor Championship, shaved 31 seconds off that mark tonight.
Guzman placed third in his section and 72nd overall in the field of 205 runners who finished the race. The Franklin, Tenn. native was at 2:52.52 at the 1000m check point and at 7:32.59 at the 2600m mark.
Two other Bucs were in action on Thursday with Phelani Maduwa (Parys, Free State, South Africa) registering a time of 3:53.67 in 1500m, while Myles Stoots (Mobile, Ala.) posted a time of 9:14.28 in the steeplechase.
ETSU will be back in action on Friday with Mary Brown (Radford, Va.) being the first Buccaneer in action with the discus at 9:45 a.m. Malachi Thomas (Chilhowie, Va.) will compete in the high jump at 11 a.m., while Genevieve Schwarz (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and Rebekah Howard (Ashland, Ky.) run the 1500m at 4:20 p.m. Kiera Snyder (Clyde, Mich.) and Chanelle Kruger (Johannesburg, South Africa) will also be in competition on Friday. Kruger will run the steeplechase at 5:40 p.m. and Snyder runs the 5000m at 6:25 p.m.
