ETSU set to compete at USC Open with SoCon Championships on deck

COLUMBIA, S.C. (April 21, 2023) – With the Southern Conference Championships on the horizon, the ETSU men’s and women’s track and field teams make one last tune up as the Buccaneers head to South Carolina for the USC Open, which will be held Saturday at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track.

Location: Sheila and Morris Cregger Track (Columbia, S.C.)

Time: The meet gets underway Saturday at 9 a.m. … The field events start with women’s pole vault, women’s hammer, men’s javelin and men’s and women’s long jump … The track events commence with the women’s 5000m

The USC Open will feature 46 teams including Clemson, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, North Carolina, UNCW, USC Upstate, Winthrop and Wofford

ETSU is scheduled to send 45 athletes to the Palmetto State this weekend

Twenty-seven women and 18 men are set to are set to compete

ETSU is coming off five gold-medal performances at last week’s Catamount Classic – Genevieve Schwarz (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and Phelani Maduwa (Parys, Free State, South Africa) swept the 800m titles on Saturday, while Evan Guzman (Franklin, Tenn.), Mary Brown (Radford, Va.) and Diana Romero-Barba (Tepatitlan de Morelos, Jalisco, Mexico) won gold on Friday

Guzman took the top spot in the 1500m, Brown won in the hammer rand Romero-Barba was the top finisher in pole vault

ETSU will compete in the Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held May 8-9 in Cullowhee, N.C.
