CLEVELAND, Tenn. (May 12, 2023) – After completing the Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Tuesday, a select number of ETSU men’s and women’s track & field student-athletes will face a quick turnaround as they gear up for the Lee University Last Chance, which will be held Saturday at the Ray Conn Sports Complex.

Location: Ray Conn Sports Complex (Cleveland, Tenn.)
Time: The meet gets underway Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. with the women’s 5000m, while the men’s hammer begins the field events at 9 a.m.

ETSU is sending eight Buccaneers to this Last Chance Meet
On the women’s side, a pair of Bucs who captured gold at this week’s SoCon Championship will be in action … Mary Brown (Radford, Va.) will be competing in both the hammer and discus, while Jessica Lord (Morristown, Tenn.) will be running the 800m
Brown won gold in the discus with a mark of 42.69, becoming ETSU’s first ever women’s SoCon champion in the event … Brown will begin the day in the hammer, which will follow the men set for 9 a.m. … Later in the afternoon, Brown will compete in the discus, following the men which starts at 3:15 p.m.
Lord won the 800m with a time of 2:08.68, becoming the fifth female Buccaneer runner to win gold in the event at the SoCon Championship … Lord will run the 800m Saturday at 3:05 p.m.
Genevieve Schwarz (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and Diana Romero-Barba (Tepatitlan de Morelos, Jalisco, Mexico) are the other two Buccaneer women competing this weekend … Schwarz – who won bronze in both the 800m and 1500m at the SoCon Championship – will be running the 1500m and Romero-Barba – the silver medalist in the pole vault at the conference championship – will begin her event at 10 a.m. … Schwarz will run the 1500m Saturday evening at 5:45 p.m.
Last year, Schwarz won the 1500m in Cleveland with a personal best time of 4:18.42, while Lord placed third in the 800m at this meet a year ago with a PR of 2:06.91.
On the men’s side Miguel Parrilla (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Phelani Maduwa (Parys, Free State, South Africa) will both be running in the 800m … The Buccaneer duo went second and third at the SoCon Championship, while Parrilla made his NCAA Regional debut last season … The men’s 800m will be run at 3:20 p.m.
Myles Stoots (Mobile, Ala.), the reigning silver medalist in the SoCon steeplechase, will run that event Saturday night at 7:25 p.m., while Malachi Thomas (Chilhowie, Va.) is the lone Buccaneer male athlete to compete in a field event … Thomas is scheduled to participate in the high jump Saturday at 10 a.m.
UP NEXT
The NCAA East Region Prelims will be up next for any Buccaneers who qualify in their respective event. The East Region Prelims begin May 24 in Jacksonville, Fla.
