Softball splits doubleheader with Samford

ETSU ends home SoCon action with a 7-0 win over Samford

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - East Tennessee State softball split the final home SoCon doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The Bucs (18-26, 6-12 SoCon) fell in game one, 0-2, and returned the shutout favor in game two, 7-0, in the series conclusion with the Bulldogs (25-27, 13-5 SoCon).

GAME 1 NOTABLES (L, 0-2)

Tiare Rieger led ETSU in assists with a season-high four total and was followed by Hailey Porter and Riley Croley with three apiece.
Riley Martens collected a career-high 14 putouts in the contest, largely in-part from the 12 ground outs by the Bulldogs.
Martens and Porter were the lone Bucs to draw a walk from the Samford pitching staff.
Abigail Taylor and Leinani Lutu were the two members of the squad to successfully record a hit in the outing.
The Bucs totaled 20 at-bats, two hits, drew two walks and collected 10 assists through the 21 putouts.

GAME 2 NOTABLES (W, 7-0)
How It Happened:
Barnes and the defense held steady through all seven innings, limiting Samford to just three hits in the first complete game shutout of Barnes' ETSU career. Unlike Samford, ETSU's offense got busy early with a single and a walk placed two on for Croley's home run in the bottom of the first, sending the Bucs up 3-0. Boone extended the lead with her third solo home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth to bring the advantage up 4-0. Moore sealed the deal in the bottom of the fifth with her 10th home run of the season, driving in a single and walk for three RBI.

Payton Moore's three-run home run was the 10th of her career and the 10th of the season. Moore went 2-3 at the plate with her three RBI.
Riley Croley delivered her third home run of the season for three RBI and continued on to go 3-3 at the plate, the first time this season a Buc has recorded a perfect day at the plate with three or more at-bats.
Whitney Boone's solo home run for insurance was the fourth of her career and the third of the season.
Marissa Barnes threw her first complete game shutout of her ETSU on senior day, limiting the Bulldogs to just three hits with two strikeouts. The outing is the most successful complete game by a member of the Buccaneer pitching staff this season.
The shutout is the third of the season for the Bucs and the most by the team in a season since four in 2023.
Hailey Porter collected the team-high of three assists in the outing.
Leinani Lutu and Riley Martens led the team in putouts with five apiece and were followed by Croley, Boone and Tiare Rieger with three apiece.
Abigail Taylor tallied her 21st stolen base of the season in the outing, collecting an extra base on the attempt. Taylor leads the Bucs in stolen bases.
The team totaled 25 at-bats, seven runs, nine hits, seven RBI, three home runs, drew three walks and registered six assists through the 21 putouts.
