Tennis Teams Competes In ITA Qualifying Tournaments

Tennis Teams Compete in ITA Sanctioned Tournaments Johnson City, Tenn. -- The East Tennesse State tennis teams have competed in two ITA sanctioned tournaments over the weekend. The women's team has competed in the ITA Southeast Qualifier in Winston-Salem, N.C., hosted by Wake Forest, while the men have been in the ITA Region II Indoor Championships held in Chapel Hill, N.C.

In women's action, Paty Vega was defeated by fifth-seeded Marlene Mejia of North Carolina 6-2, 6-1 in the main draw. Earlier in the tournament, ETSU's Mami Inoue defeated Davidson's Lindsay Offutt 6-3, 6-2 in first round qualifying. Inoue then lost to Medina Brajambasic of Coastal Carolina 6-3, 7-6 in second round action. Jessica Irey was defeated in first-round action by Clemson's Ashlea Bowen 6-3, 6-2.

In men's play at the ITA Region II Indoor Championships, Juan Yannuzzi was defeated by North Carolina's Nicholas Monroe 6-3, 6-2. Gustavo Gomez won his first-round match against Jakob Widange 7-6, 6-1. Gomez then fell to Duke's Alex Bose 7-6 (18-15), 6-4. In doubles action, Gomez and Fernandez lost to Ola Jonsson and Thomas Oggesen from Charlotte 8-2.
