Atlantic Sun Conference releases All-Academic numbers

MACON, Ga. (January 25, 2007) - The Atlantic Sun Conference office released its All-Academic numbers for the fall season on Thursday. Among the student-athletes competing in cross country, soccer, volleyball and basketball, 56 percent (593-of-1064) earned All-Academic status.  

 

ETSU had 45.45 percent of eligible student-athletes earn A-Sun all academic honors this fall. The men's cross country team led the way for ETSU with 62.5 percent followed closely by the women's soccer team with 61.9 percent.

 

Among fall sports, women's cross country consistently holds the advantage. The 10 teams combined accounted for 75.47 percent of all its participants to earn all-academic honors. Cross country is followed by volleyball (68.80 percent), women's soccer (66.23 percent), men's cross country (57.27 percent), women's basketball (47.10 percent) and men's basketball (34.69 percent).

 

To be named A-Sun All-Academic, a student-athlete must achieve a 3.0 or higher in the classroom during their semester of competition. The sports sponsored by conference members are cross-country, soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, golf, softball, baseball, indoor and outdoor track & field.

 

The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
