Bucs commemorate this past year’s academic and athletic accomplishments

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 27, 2015) – The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics celebrated the many academic and athletic achievements of its student-athletes Monday evening with the "Night of Champions" inside the D. P. Culp Center Auditorium.

“The Night of Champions is an annual awards ceremony to celebrate the academic and athletic achievements of our student-athletes,” said ETSU Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services Charvi Greer. “We are proud, as always, of their accomplishments this year and we’re looking forward to what the 2015-16 year will bring.”

Included in the celebration of ETSU’s athletic and academic accomplishments of this past year was the annual “Bucky Awards” in which numerous athletic and academic achievements were recognized with award presentations.

Highlighted among this year’s 12 winners on the athletic side were Best Win by the men’s golf team in the 2015 Southern Conference Championships, women’s basketball’s Tianna Tarter (Johnson City, Tenn.) winning Best Newcomer, men’s tennis’ David Biosca (Sant Fruitos de Bage, Spain) earning Most Dominant Athlete, and women’s soccer’s Sarah Zadrazil (St. Gilgen, Austria) taking home the Best Offensive Player Award.

Featured in the academic honors was track & field’s Verena Tobis (Dusslingen, Germany) being named Academic Student-Athlete of the Year.

The event wound down with recognition of all soon-to-be graduating student-athletes as well as closing comments from ETSU president Dr. Brian Noland.

The “Night of Champions” is coordinated by ETSU athletics’ academic service staff with cooperation from ETSU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
