Marissa Gilbuena is in her first season as assistant coach with the East Tennessee State University.

Born and raised in Aliso Viejo, California, Marissa migrated to Johnson City in 2016. Prior to ETSU, Marissa has years of experience developing and training athletes. She helped run a softball team through the Boys and Girls Club sponsored by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Marissa is a graduate of Aliso Niguel High School in Aliso Viejo, Calif., where she was a four-year letterman, 2011-12 Varsity MVP and starting shortstop. She started playing club ball at the age of 13 and was with the California Cruisers from 2007 to 2012.

Gilbuena attended Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Calif. and was the starting shortstop. Later attended Concordia University Irvine and was a GSAC All-Conference selection in 2015. Her college career batting average was 0.330 with 14 home runs and a fielding percentage of 0.881.
