Johnson City, Tenn. -- Furman University swept a three-game series with East Tennessee State, following a 3-2 victory Sunday afternoon from Greenville, S.C.
It was the second consecutive victory for the Paladins in their final at-bat.
Furman (17-20, 6-3 SoCon) loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh with the game tied at two. It seemed as if the Bucs (8-21, 4-7) would escape the threat following two fielders choices, picking off runners at home. But with two outs, Kay Brittain came to the plate and hit an RBI single for the victory.
Buccaneer starter Tiffany Vandergriff (7-11) went the distance for the third time in the series, allowing three earned runs, striking out two.
ETSU third baseman Judith St. Clair went 2-for-3 on the afternoon, while Vandergriff had the Bucs lone RBI.
ETSU returns to action on Tuesday at 2 p.m. as they host Eastern Kentucky in a doubleheader from Kiwanis Park.
