Charleston, SC -- The College of Charleston softball team used 14 hits in the second game to come back from a 3-1 loss in the first game to win the second 12-4 against East Tennessee State in six innings this afternoon at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

In the first game the Buccaneers (4-16, 1-4) racked up three runs in the first two innings and settled down after that to take the eventual 3-1 win in the first game of the day. The Cougars’ (14-18, 2-3) run would come in the sixth as Melissa Creeger scored off a fielding error by the shortstop. That would be it as the next batter fouled out.

Kenzie Kohler picked up her ninth loss of the season to take her to 5-9 on the season, while Tiffany Vandergriff took the win for the Buccaneers.

East Tennessee State got on the board first with two runs in the second inning but the College of Charleston answered in the third with two runs of its own to tie the game up. The fourth inning saw the Buccaneers score another two runs to take the score to 4-2, but the Cougars responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the 5-4 lead.

Charleston’s seven runs in the sixth off four hits and two Buccaneer errors sealed the Cougars’ second conference victory of the season.

Creeger picked up her third win of the season in just her sixth start to bring her to 3-3 on the year. April Arnold, in 3.0 innings of work, took the loss.

The same two teams will square off Sunday for the final game of the series at Patriots Point. The first pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
