Johnson City, Tenn. -- The East Tennessee State softball team swept a doubleheader from Lambuth University, 8-0 and 8-7, in their first home games in the program’s history Monday afternoon at Kiwanis Park.

In the first game of the afternoon, Tiffany Vandergriff pitched a complete-game two-hitter as ETSU notched their first shutout in team history.

The game was scoreless until ETSU scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth and again in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

Leftfielder Jessica Hodge went 2-2 with three RBI’s and one run scored for the Buccaneers. Vandergriff was also 2-2, notching two runs scored and an RBI of her own.

In the second game, ETSU opened up a 5-1 lead after the first three innings. The skies then opened up and the game went into a short rain delay before the start of the fourth inning.

After the rain delay, Lambuth scored six runs over the next three innings to close the score to 8-7. However, the weather would not cooperate, and the game had to be halted for good after five and a half innings.

Third baseman Judith St. Clair went 2-3 at the plate with two runs scored and three RBI’s. St. Clair hit her second home run of the year with a shot to right field in the bottom of the first. Kayla Calvert picked up her first victory of the year after giving up just two hits over four innings.

The Buccaneers return to action on Thursday, March 15 at 2 p.m. as they host Tennessee Wesleyan in a doubleheader from Kiwanis Park.
