Johnson City, Tenn. - The East Tennessee State Buccaneer softball team fell in the first round of the Eastern Kentucky Invitational, 8-0 to the host EKU Colonels Friday afternoon.
The game was deadlocked at zero until the top of the sixth when Eastern Kentucky scored four runs off of ETSU starter Tiffany Vandergriff. They scored four more runs in the seventh to account for the margin of victory.
The Buccaneers (1-8) were led at the plate by Vandergriff, who had two hits in three plate appearances. Amy Herrington had four runs batted in and a home run for Eastern Kentucky.
The Buccaneers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 24 as they play Belmont at 1:30 and Ohio University at 3:30 in the second day of the Eastern Kentucky Invitational.
