Houston, Texas -- The Northwestern State Deamons used a seven-run fifth inning to defeat East Tennessee State, 11-3, in the championship game of the University of Houston Tournament.
Deamon rightfielder Erin Mancuso went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a two-run double in the fifth. Leftfielder Lindsey Danzy collected three hits and two runs scored.
ETSU's Danielle Richardson stroked two of the Bucs six hits. Designated hitter Julia Chance belted her second home run of the season while shortstop Tiffany Vandergriff hit her first collegiate homer.
Buc starter Kayla Calvert took the loss after pitching 3.0 innings and allowing six runs.
In the first inning, ETSU's Jessica Hodge singled and scored on Chance's home run.
Northwestern State cut the lead to 2-1 in the second and gained a 4-2 lead with a three-run third. ETSU scored its final run in the home-half of the third when Vandergriff homered.
The Deamons seven-run fifth ended the Bucs' title hopes. ETSU returns to action on February 19 with a doubleheader against LSU. The first game will start at 5 p.m.
