Johnson City, Tenn. (Apr. 8, 2002) -- Mamie "Peanut" Johnson, living legend of the Negro Baseball League will appear at Tuesday's softball doubleheader between East Tennessee State and North Carolina A&T, 2 p.m. from Metro-Kiwanis Park in Johnson City, Tenn.
A utility player and pitcher, Johnson was called "Peanut" because of her small size. As a member of the Indianapolis Clowns from 1953-55, she played against baseball icons such as Leroy "Satchel" Paige, Buck O'Neil and Henry "Hank" Aaron.
Johnson had a 33-8 record on the mound during her time with the Clowns, and her batting average ranged from .262 to .284.
