Softball Drops Two in Doubleheader Against South Carolina

Johnson City, Tenn. (Mar. 27, 2002) -- The East Tennessee State softball team fell in both ends of a doubleheader against South Carolina, 9-0 and 14-0, in softball action Wednesday night from Beckhan Field in Columbia, S.C. The Bucs (13-15) were no-hit in game one, as Gamecock pitcher Megan Matthews recorded 12 strikouts and threw just eight balls in the five-inning win. ETSU's only baserunner came as sophomore catcher Sheryl Clark (Bradenton, Fla.) was hit by a pitch in the top of the second. ETSU freshman pitcher Courtney Jenkins Amy Moore (Jacksonville, Fla.) recorded the only Buccaneer hit, a single. Senior pitcher Marsha Giles (Jonesborough, Tenn.) (5-6)pitched all four innings for the Bucs, allowing 15 hits and six earned runs on the evening. The Bucs return to action as they host Southern Conference rival College of Charleston this weekend from Metro-Kiwanis Park in Johnson City. Saturday's doublheader will begin at 1 p.m. while the first pitch of Sunday's game will also be at 1 p.m.
