Softball Bucs fall to Michigan State, 12-0
Thursday, March 6, 2008

CLEARWATER, Fla. (Mar. 6, 2008) - The ETSU women's softball team managed to get in one game before heavy rains moved into the Clearwater region; however, the news for the Lady Bucs was not positive as Michigan State posted a 12-0 shutout Thursday morning in the Under Armour Invitational from the Eddie C. Moore Sports Complex.

Michigan State exploded for eight runs in the fourth and went on to win 12-0 in five innings.

The Lady Bucs were held to only one hit as sophomore Trisha Massenzo's (Russellville, Tenn.) double to center in the fifth ended Megan Hair's no-hit bid. Massenzo's double also extended her hitting streak to six straight games.

The Spartans pushed a run across the plate in the first and second innings and tacked on two more in the third. Then MSU took full advantage of three ETSU errors in the fourth as they went on to post eight runs in the frame.

After posting stellar outings last weekend in Charleston, sophomore Marissa Hardy (Rocklin, Calif.) was roughed up by allowing four runs on six hits in 2.2IP. Hair earned her first win of the season after going the distance and striking out three.

The Softball Bucs took on 13th-ranked Baylor, but heavy rains washed out the remainder of play on Thursday.

On Friday, ETSU will resume play against the Bears in the top of the fifth and will be the only action the Lady Bucs will see. ETSU will take on Hofstra on Saturday at 5 p.m. and finish play on Sunday against Coastal Carolina (9 a.m.) and UIC (11 a.m.).
