NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 6, 2014) - Despite limiting Lipscomb to just five hits, the ETSU softball team was edged by the Bisons, 4-2, Sunday in the final game of a three-game Atlantic Sun series. Junior Nicole Fox (Peachtree City, Ga.) went 2-for-3 on the day, scoring twice and swiping her team-best 15th stolen base of the season.
Whitney Leon (Dandridge, Tenn.) held Lipscomb's high-scoring offense in check for most of the day, giving up no earned runs through five innings of work in which she allowed just three hits.
Knotted at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Leon hit back-to-back Bisons batters before a three-run homer by right fielder Kelsey Cartwright gave the Bisons (31-9, 11-6) a 4-1 lead.
The Buccaneers (15-21, 4-11) cut its deficit to 4-2 when Jackie Baird hit a two-out double in the sixth inning to plate Fox.
With the win, Lipsomb has now won 18 of its last 24 games.
ETSU will return home Tuesday, April 8 to host Appalachian State for a non-conference double-header, with games beginning at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.
