JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (April 18, 2014) – After enjoying a seven-game homestand, the ETSU softball team will begin a 10-game road trip when it visits Jacksonville, Fla., to take on the Jacksonville Dolphins (16-27, 6-14) in a three-game series, beginning Saturday, April 19.

ETSU will enter the weekend coming off a series split with Southern Conference opponent Furman. The Bucs (17-26, 5-13) won the second-game of the double-header, 5-0, behind a two-home run effort by senior Jackie Baird (Tenn.) and a complete game shutout by freshman Taylor Carter (Brazil, Ind.).

BUCS AMONG NATION'S ELITE

Several ETSU players rank among the nation's best, with Carter leading the country in fewest walks allowed per seven innings (0.61). The Brazil, Ind., native has allowed just 10 walks in 122 and two-thirds innings on the mound en route to earning a team-best 11 wins.

Meanwhile, junior Nicole Fox (Peachtree City, Ga.) ranks third in the nation with five triples. ETSU's starting center fielder belted two three-baggers last week, including one in the Bucs' 6-5 win over North Florida. She has also swiped 19 bases in 21 attempts.

Senior pitcher and first baseman Katie Wolff (La Grange, Texas) has struck out just three times in 115 at bats, making her the 10th toughest player to strikeout in the nation. Wolff, who leads the Bucs with a .374 batting average, has gone 9-of-20 at the plate over her last six games.

Fellow senior Baird, who leads the Bucs with 15 home runs, entered the week ranking 12th in the nation for home runs. The Ooltewah, Tenn., native belted two homers in the Bucs' 5-0 win over Furman Wednesday, April 16. Earlier this season, Baird become ETSU's leader for single-season home runs and career home runs.
