Bucs to play double-header Sunday, April 20 at noon and 2:00 p.m.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (April 19, 2014) - A three-run, go-ahead home run in the fifth inning by senior Jackie Baird (Ooltewah, Tenn.) helped ETSU clinch a 4-3 conference victory over Jacksonville on Saturday. Saturday's scheduled double-header will instead be played Sunday, April 20.
Baird gave the Bucs an early 1-0 lead with a two out RBI single in the third inning, driving in Kelsey Chernak (Ooltewah, Tenn.). With two outs, Chernak and senior Katie Wolff (La Grange, Texas) hit back-to-back singles to put Chernak in scoring position.
With the game knotted at 1-1 in the fifth inning, junior Nicole Fox (Peachtree City, Ga.) drove a double right center, followed by a single by Wolff. With two outs, Baird blasted her team-best 16th home run of the season to give the Bucs (17-27, 6-13) a 4-1 lead.
ETSU was able to hold off a Jacksonville rally to clinch the 4-3 victory.
Wolff, who picked up her fifth win of the season on the mound, extended her team-best hit streak to seven games in the win. Over her last seven games, the La Grange, Texas, native has gone 11-of-22 at the plate.
The Bucs will look to continue their winning ways as they take on Jacksonville in a Sunday double-header, with games beginning at noon and 2:00 p.m.
