MACON, Ga. (May 5, 2014) – For the second consecutive season, ETSU Softball's Jackie Baird (Ooltewah, Tenn.) has earned a spot on the Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team.
Baird, one of the Bucs three outgoing seniors, excelled both on and off the playing field this year for ETSU. An exercise science major, Baird maintained an impressive 3.79 GPA in the classroom while leading the Bucs with a single-season record 20 home runs and 50 RBI.
In addition to setting program-records for single-season home runs and RBI, Baird also set a new program mark for slugging percentage (0.776). The Ooltewah, Tenn., native finished her career as ETSU's all-time home run leader with 33 long balls.
With the help of Baird's career-best season, ETSU earned seven A-Sun wins, the program's most since 2008. The senior catcher was the lone Buccaneer player to appear in all 52 games during the 2014 campaign.
Baird becomes the first ETSU player to garner league academic honors in consecutive seasons. The Bucs have placed a player on the A-Sun All-Academic Team each of the past three seasons.
