JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 21, 2015) - After helping ETSU to wins in five of six contests last week, ETSU shortstop Latosha Rectenwald (Whitesburg, Tenn.) was named College Sports Madness SoCon Player of the Week.
Rectenwald, one of seven ETSU players to have at least seven hits this season, was an integral piece of an ETSU offense that averaged more than seven runs over six games last week.
In a double-header sweep of Gardner-Webb Tuesday, Feb. 10, Rectenwald went 4-of-7 at the plate, homering twice, driving in four runs, and scoring three more. During ETSU's 8-7 win versus Bucknell at the ECU Pirate Clash Friday, Feb. 13, Rectenwald continued her hot hitting, belting a three-run double in the Bucs' (5-5) five-run first inning.
Rectenwald is one of just two ETSU players to have started each game this season. Through 10 games, the Whitesburg, Tenn., native is batting .296 with eight hits, seven RBI, and 15 total bases, already eclipsing her 2014 marks of seven hits, five RBI, and 11 total bases.
The Bucs are out of action this weekend following the weather-induced cancellation of a non-conference tournament at Austin Peay University in Clarksville, Tenn. ETSU was set to partipate in all three days of the tournament, which was planned to take place Friday, Feb. 20 to Sunday, Feb. 22 and include a five-team field: Austin Peay, ETSU, IPFW, South Dakota State, and Wright State.
ETSU will host Canisius and Morehead State for the Holiday Inn Classic in Johnson City, Tenn., Saturday, Feb. 28 and Sunday, March 1. The two-day tournament will mark ETSU's first home action of the season.
