SPARTANBURG, S.C. (May 5, 2015) - ETSU's Cassi Pickett (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Kelsey Smith (Tucson, Ariz.) each earned spots on the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team, the league announced Wednesday.
In their first seasons at ETSU, Pickett and Smith emerged as two of the Bucs' leading hitters, batting .319 and .298, respectively.
Pickett, one of two ETSU players to have maintained an on-base percentage better than .400, has hit a team-best seven doubles this season in addition to belting five home runs and driving in 23 runs.
In league play, Pickett has driven in seven runs for the Bucs, second-best on the team behind only Taylor Carter's eight.
Smith is ETSU's leader for home runs (12), runs batted in (41), and slugging percentage (.621). The Tucson, Ariz., native got off to a terric start this season, hitting eight homers in ETSU's first 17 games.
During a five-game span between March 29 and April 3, Smith went 10-for-17 at the plate, hitting three homers while driving in eight runs.
Pickett and Smith's selections mark the first time since 2007 that ETSU has placed multiple players on the conference All-Freshman Team.
